GORCC welcomes the release of the new State Government policy statement Improving equity of access to Crown land caravan and camping parks.
At first glance, we understand the new policy provides a solid foundation for all managers of Crown land caravan and camping parks across Victoria to provide fair and equitable access to sites so that more Victorians can enjoy affordable holidays.
We are in the process of reading the new policy in detail and our committee will need time to work through its implications for our future caravan park operations, particularly with the new committee due to be appointed in the next few weeks.
GORCC would therefore like to assure all our existing campers that any decisions around how and when the new policy will be implemented in our caravan parks is still quite some way off.
In the meantime, we have already finalised arrangements for next summer’s casual camping ballot at Torquay Foreshore Caravan Park, following the success of our inaugural ballot last summer, and are already issuing 12-month and seasonal permits for 2010-2011. So it’s very much business as usual for the next 12 months.
We look forward to working with the Department of Sustainability and Environment, Coastal Camping Victoria and other stakeholders to improve access to our caravan parks.
We also remain committed to keeping campers fully informed of our progress in understanding and applying the new policy to our caravan park operations.
