Split Point Precinct Masterplan

About this page

GORCC and Surf Coast Shire are collaborating on a project to improve public land in the Split Point Lighthouse Precinct in Aireys Inlet.

The focus of the project is public land in the Split Point Lighthouse Precinct bordering the Great Ocean Road, Inlet Crescent, Federal Street and Reserve Road in Aireys Inlet. Public land in the precinct has significant environmental and cultural values and is highly valued by the local community. It is also an important destination for visitors.

Both the Great Ocean Road Coast Committee and Surf Coast Shire are committed to considering the future of public land in the precinct in an integrated manner.

We need to balance social, economic and environmental values of the public land values, with the needs of residents, visitors, community groups and others with an interest in the precinct.

Surf Coast Shire Councillor, Libby Mears, said “I have a very strong appreciation of the importance of this precinct the local community and visitors to this area”.

“I am confident that the integrated approach that GORCC and Council are taking will result in the protection of the environmental, cultural and social values of this special precinct", said Libby Mears.

A masterplan is currently being prepared by GORCC and the Shire to identify possible improvements to public land use and management in the precinct, focusing on issues such as:
The masterplan aims to build on the numerous plans and studies which have previously been undertaken in the area and to provide a basis for implementing various works and activities.

Various proposals to improve the precinct are under consideration however at this stage no final decisions have been made.

It is anticipated that a draft masterplan will be endorsed by GORCC and Council in the near future, and then released for widespread consultation.
