Victorian Coastal Strategy

About this page

The new Victorian Coastal Strategy 2008 is fundamental to how GORCC manages the coast.

The new strategy was officially co-launched by Minister for the Environment Gavin Jennings and Minister for Planning Justin Madden at the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club on Wednesday 10 December 2008.

Prepared by the Victorian Coastal Council, the new strategy provides a five-year plan for managing Victoria's coastline in the face of major ongoing change. It builds on the principles and actions of the previous two strategies and responds to three significant issues that require specific attention: climate change, population and growth, and marine ecological integrity.

The new strategy is fundamental to how GORCC and other land management agencies manage the coast. It includes policies and actions for caravan parks, ports, infrastructure, biodiversity, access and education among other key areas for which we are responsible.

As such, the strategy will underpin the whole range of coastal projects and initiatives, from those aimed at protecting environmental and cultural values to those that facilitate tourism, recreation and suitable development.
