What we do

About this page

Learn more about our role and responsibilities.

The coastal reserves between Torquay and Lorne deliver important social, environmental and economic benefits to residents, visitors and businesses in the region. GORCC is responsible for managing Crown land reserves along the coast, including caravan parks, and undertakes a range of projects and activities.

We build, manage and maintain a veritable A to Z of facilities, from artwork to zebra crossings, and lease various facilities to community organisations (e.g. angling clubs, surf clubs). We also issue licences and permits for coastal-based commercial activities (e.g. surf schools, education tours, mobile food vendors) and events (e.g. markets, triathlons, swimming events, weddings).

Our responsibilities extend to the Port of Lorne, Taylor Park in central Torquay and Queens Park in Lorne.

We manage the Torquay Foreshore Caravan Park and Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park, which both offer a wide range of accommodation options. In addition, caravan parks in Anglesea and Cumberland River are leased to private operators.

The majority of our income is generated by our caravan park operations with our licence, lease and permit system and coastal reserve operations providing important secondary sources of income. We also receive occasional project-based grants to deliver specific coastal-related projects.

All our funds are invested in managing and protecting coastal reserves along the Great Ocean Road coast between Torquay and Lorne, and in maintaining our caravan parks.

Our services and operations deliver a range of benefits including:

Professionals to again patrol our beaches

GORCC and Surf Coast Shire Council are again contributing to beachgoers' safety this summer by providing funding, in conjunction with the State Government, to help cover the cost of the professional lifeguards who patrol beaches along the Surf Coast. The professionals work alongside surf life saving club volunteers to ensure safer beaches and provide vital surf rescue and first aid services.
