About this page

A quick overview of our role and formation.

LorneThe Great Ocean Road Coast Committee (GORCC) is responsible for managing coastal Crown land reserves along Victoria's Great Ocean Road from Point Impossible east of Torquay to Cumberland River southwest of Lorne.

GORCC was appointed in August 2004 and formally incorporated by the Victorian Government in March 2005. GORCC is independent of Surf Coast Shire but works in close partnership with it.

As a Crown land Committee of Management established under the Crown Land (Reserves) Act 1978, GORCC has broad powers to manage the coastal land reserved for public purposes on behalf of the Crown.

The area managed by GORCC was previously managed by five separate foreshore committees of management (Torquay, Anglesea, Airey's Inlet, Fairhaven and Lorne). The main driver for amalgamating these committees into a single entity was the the need to improve coastal management by delivering efficiency gains and more effective services.
